TacU-NS Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 21, 2026 | Version: 1.1.0

App: TacU-NS: Network Security Intelligence (Android)
Introduction
TacU-NS ("we", "our", or "us") operates the TacU-NS: Network Security Intelligence mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, with whom we share it, and what rights you have over your data.
This policy applies to the TacU-NS Android application available on the Google Play Store and to our backend service at api.tacuns.net. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the App and do not use it.

Permissions We Request and Why
We request the following Android permissions. Each permission is used only for the stated purpose and is never used beyond it.
3.1 Location (Precise and Approximate)
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
Why required: Android 10 and above require location permission to read WiFi network names (SSIDs) and scan nearby networks. This is an Android OS requirement. Location is also used in the Privacy Shield feature to compare your GPS-derived location against your network-reported location, and in the Speed Test feature to display GPS-based speed.
Important: Location is accessed only while the App is open and in use. We do not access location in the background. We do not track or store your location.
3.2 Camera
CAMERA
Why required: Used exclusively by the QR Scanner feature to scan QR codes through your device camera. The camera feed is processed entirely on your device in real time. No images or video are recorded, stored, or transmitted.
3.3 Bluetooth
BLUETOOTH_SCAN, BLUETOOTH_CONNECT, BLUETOOTH, BLUETOOTH_ADMIN
Why required: Used by the BLE Scanner feature to discover nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices and read bonded device names. The BLUETOOTH_SCAN permission includes the neverForLocation flag, meaning Bluetooth scanning is never used to derive your location. The App does not connect to, pair with, or communicate with any Bluetooth device.
3.4 Internet and Network Access
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE, CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
Why required: Required for all network features — communicating with our backend server, performing security lookups, and reading WiFi network information.
3.5 Notifications and Storage
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
Notifications: Used to deliver optional security alert notifications. You can deny this permission without affecting any core features.
Storage: Used to save QR codes generated by the QR Generator feature to your device Downloads folder (Android 12 and below only).
What Data We Collect, Why, and How
4.1 Data You Actively Provide
When you use analysis features, you may manually submit indicators such as IP addresses, domain names, URLs, file hashes, or email addresses. This data is used only to perform the analysis you requested and is not stored against your identity.
4.2 Location Data
Accessed only while you are actively using the WiFi Analyzer, Privacy Shield, or GPS Speed features. Location coordinates are not stored on our servers. Location is never accessed in the background.
4.3 Network and Device Information
When you use network scanning features, the App reads local network information such as network names, signal strength, and device addresses. This information is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
4.4 QR Code Content
Text decoded from scanned QR codes (URLs, contact details, payment information, WiFi credentials, etc.) is processed on your device. URLs may be optionally forwarded to our backend for security analysis when you initiate a scan.
4.5 Bluetooth Device Information
When you use the BLE Scanner, nearby Bluetooth device names and signal data are processed locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to our servers.
4.6 Scan History
When you perform security scans, a summary of results (the indicator queried, the result, and a timestamp) is saved locally on your device and in a cloud database to provide scan history within the App. This data is associated with an anonymous identifier only and is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity.
4.7 Push Notification Token
If you grant notification permission, a device token is generated and stored in our database solely for delivering alerts. This token is not linked to your personal identity and is removed when you revoke permission or uninstall the App.
Third-Party Services We Use
When features require external lookups, your query is forwarded through our secure backend server. We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs.
Through our secure backend server:
- Security intelligence services — receive user-submitted indicators (IP addresses, domains, URLs, file hashes) for threat analysis purposes
- Breach verification services — receive email addresses you submit to check against known data breach records
- AI processing services — receive messages you send to the AI Assistant feature (this feature is not yet active in the current app version)
- Cloud database (Supabase) — stores anonymous scan history summaries and push notification tokens
Directly from your device:
- Internet speed measurement services — conduct download and upload speed tests
- IP geolocation services — identify your approximate ISP and country from your public IP address
- Location mapping services — convert GPS coordinates to an approximate city name for display in the Privacy Shield feature
- DNS resolution services — perform domain name and hostname lookups
- Device information lookup services — identify device manufacturers using only the first portion of a hardware address
- Push notification services (Google Firebase) — deliver security alert notifications using your device token
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertising networks or data brokers. We do not share your data with any party not listed in this section.
Data Storage and Retention
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Local device data: | Retained until you clear App data or uninstall the App |
| Cloud scan history: | Retained until you request deletion via support@tacuns.net |
| Push notification token: | Retained until you revoke notification permission or uninstall the App |
| Server logs: | Retained for a maximum of 7 days for security purposes, then automatically deleted |
Data Security
All communication between the App and our backend server uses HTTPS encryption. Unencrypted connections to public servers are not permitted by the App.
Your Rights and Choices
